Nanshe Nine Acres

How this was made

Nanshe's art, and part of its audio, were made with generative AI tools during development, and they ship inside the game today. I am replacing all of it with work by people, and this page will change as that happens.

Art

The key art and the wordmark were generated with image models through OpenArt. The in-game pixel art, meaning the terrain tile atlas, the building sprites, the worker and animation frames, the palms and the interface marks, 473 images in total, was generated with PixelLab. Between them these account for essentially all of the game's art.

Music and sound

Three music tracks were generated with Google's Lyria 3, and four short event sounds with ElevenLabs, both through OpenArt. The river, the dry wind and the thunder in the opening are human field recordings licensed from Freesound rather than AI, and they are credited below and in the CREDITS.txt file that ships with the game.

A per-asset record is kept of which model produced what, with dates and generation identifiers, and it is available on request.

Licensed work

Sound

The river is a recording by tim.kahn, used unchanged under CC BY 4.0.

The dry wind is a recording by felix.blume, released under CC0. CC0 asks for no credit. This is here because the recording earned one.

The thunder in the opening is a recording by hantorio, used unchanged under CC BY 3.0.

Type

Marcellus, by Brian J. Bonislawsky, under the SIL Open Font License. The full licence ships with the game.

Noto Sans Cuneiform, by the Noto Project Authors, under the SIL Open Font License. It is not shipped. Its outlines were rendered during development to draw the name in cuneiform for the opening screen and the icon. The licence does not reach work made with a font, so it asks for no credit.

Built with

Unity. Third-party components Unity redistributes, including the libdecor libraries in the Linux build, are covered by Unity's own notices rather than by this page.

The same list ships inside the game as CREDITS.txt. If something here is wrong, or you think your work is in this game and is not listed, write to hello@nineacresgames.com and it will be fixed.
